Roundup spends have doubled in January as opposed to the last two months. The year wrapped up with Monsanto winning, but Roundup lawsuits are heating up in 2024. In a noteworthy turn of events in the McKivision case, a Philadelphia jury has delivered a groundbreaking verdict, granting $2.5 billion earlier in February.
The jury assigned $250 million for compensatory damages and a remarkable $2 billion for punitive damages. Like the Mesothelioma cases, this is a significant payout, sparking renewed interest in the legal area. As of January 2024, Monsanto has resolved close to 100,000 Roundup lawsuits, with settlements totaling around $11 billion.
Fire Fighting Foam
This tort experienced a fluctuation in ad spends, the last few months. However, in January, the AFFF firefighting foam class action MDL witnessed an increase of 279 new cases, bringing the total pending cases to 6,994.
Given that almost six months have passed since the global settlement deal aimed at resolving water contamination claims, it is probable that the majority of these recent cases pertain to personal injury or cancer claims.
While slower phases are normal, the situation suggests the potential for decades’ worth of claims to be pursued.
Paraquat experienced a decline this month, consistent with its unpredictable nature. Each month, an increasing number of individuals discover the connection between this herbicide and their Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis, seeking legal and financial solutions. The Paraquat class action MDL, after averaging 250 new monthly cases over the past 2 years, has notably slowed. Only 26 cases were added in January and 21 the month before, bringing the total pending cases to 5,077.
Hair Straightener/ Relaxer
